This renovation takes full advantage of every inch of space in an 80’s modern Cambridge condo with a very tall (12′-6″), very narrow (12′-0″), very long (20′-0″) living room. The project was featured in The Boston Globe Sunday Magazine.

The owner is a single man with an enormous collection of books, so the walls were lined with floor to ceiling bookcases. A rolling ladder makes it possible to reach the upper shelves.

A contemporary mantel was designed for the existing fireplace.

The owner’s tired assortment of hand-me-down furniture was replaced with modern classics, creating a comfortable place to read or an intimate area to converse. At the other end of the room is a work area with a custom desk that picks up the detailing of the fireplace.
